The newly-established Drilling Section of the Water Resources Management Division (WRD) is the lead Government Section responsible for promoting the implementation of community water supply developments in the Solomon Islands. As such, the Section compliments this function with drilling services, aimed at improving the livelihoods of rural and urban communities by giving them access to sustainable water supply options.
Water supplied to these communities can also support upcoming industries, agriculture and animal husbandry (stock-water). Additionally, the drilling services also intend address the issue of increasing water scarcity from rivers and streams as a result of contamination and land disputes.
The Section uses submersible mobile pumps and equipment to achieve this objective and targets groundwater sources that are located near communities.
