The Petroleum Advisory Board is the statutory board set up under the Petroleum (Exploration) Act to be responsible for the evaluation of Petroleum License (prospecting and exploration) applications submitted to the Ministry through the Petroleum Division. Recommendations pertaining to the license applications are then forwarded to the Minister responsible for Petroleum who is ultimately responsible for granting the licenses.

The Minister of Mines is also an accountable Minister (together with the Minister of Finance), responsible for the appointment of members to and the administrative oversight of the Islands Electricity Authority (SIEA) Board.
