The diversion of water from natural surface water sources such as rivers, lakes and streams and the extraction of water from naturally occurring ground water sources within the Solomon Islands is subject to permits granted by the Ministry of Mines, Energy and Rural Electrification’s (MMERE) Water Resources Management Division (WRD) and the Solomon Islands Water Authority (SIWA). It is important that investors first obtain these water permits before embarking on business activities that may involve the diversion or extraction of natural water sources.
